New ‘Mobius’ Theme Now Available

by @ 11:18 am on July 28th, 2011 in themes with 13 Comments

Welcome! Today we’ve got another theme available for download. This theme, derived from the original wallpaper available here, is another piece from the venerable collection of wallpapers at perfecthue.com. For those who have yet to check out previous entries from this collection be sure to pick up the Crowd and Platform themes as well. These works are thanks to the fantastic work and generosity of Jason Benjamin, who has allowed for the conversion of these wallpapers into Media Center themes. So be sure to head over, pickup the original background (using it as your Media Center’s background makes for a smoother transition on bootup and shutdown) and thank him for his hard work in making these excellent creations.

Installing this theme requires Windows 7 Media Center and Media Center Studio, a free media center theme creation application. Once you’ve downloaded the zip file extract the .mct file inside to a location of your choice. Open Media Center Studio and select the themes tab then select Import Theme. Locate the file and import the theme into the program. Select the newly imported theme from the listing and hit Apply. The theme will be applied the next time media center is started.

Be sure to check back for more additions to the collection as well as other media center add-ons and software.

I notice that there is no 1920×1080 wallpaper download. I usually like to match my wallpaper to the MCE background since I jump out of MCE to open webpages and having a matching wallpaper makes it seamless.
Is there a 1920×1080 download ?

You can request other versions of the wallpaper from the author’s website but it’s up to him whether or not to make them available. The 2560×1600 version was used for the theme.

Simply change the extension of the theme from MCT to ZIP. MCT files are zip files with a different extension. Go ahead an open up the zip and browser through the folder levels until you find tv.common.background.png. This will be the backdrop for media center and you can now extract that file and use it as your wallpaper. While you’re in there, take a look around and see if there is anything you’d like to change, I always enjoy new themes.

I tried the Mobius theme and it showed during media center startup but goes away when the main menu appears. Anyone know why?

Looks nice,
Is this a Swirly theme or is it static?

I am worried abou applying these themes because of how it might affect windows update. If there is a media center update that comes out, will it not apply it the ehome is modified?

haha windows update for Media Center. Your smoking some awesome drugs their, I want some.

FYI for those playing the home game. Microsoft has no plans to maintain Media Center, that is why the community is disbanding faster than you can say “WTFHAPPENEDTOTHEGREENBUTTONANDWINDOWS*”.

Its a real shame tho because it is currently the only real HTPC software option for playing Blurays. ( makes the abomination usable).

Love this one!
“Streaming Light” was a little too “pinky” for me!

Great Work!

P.S.: I converted the background to 1920×1080, 7mc does this automatically on my HDTV, so I have a matching wallpaper, too.

Can anyone tell how to get the mobius theme to work with the extenders. I just get a black screen on the extender.
