Hacking Windows 7 Media Center

Streaming Light Theme

by @ 9:00 am on October 12th, 2010 in themes with 34 Comments

Thanks to Dave Bryce, a Hack7MC reader and AVForums member, we have a new theme available for download today. Dave sent us this theme via mhealy@hack7mc.com and you can send your themes in as well if you’ve got them! Just attach the MCT file from Media Center Studio and we’ll post it here for our users to enjoy.

streaming_light

Dave’s theme, Streaming Light is currently being worked on and has an active thread available for comments over at AVForums. Be sure to drop in and leave comments, suggestions and praise in the thread. We’ve got the latest version, 1.02, available for download right here in our Download Center. You’ll need Media Center Studio installed in order to apply the theme.

For those unfamiliar with Media Center Studio simply run the program and select the Themes tab. From that tab select the Import Theme button and select the Streaming Light MCT file to add it to Media Center Studio’s theme listing. From there select the Streaming Light theme and press the Apply button. The theme will be applied to Media Center and should appear the next time you launch the program.

mcs

Easy as that! Thanks to Dave Bryce for sending in this theme and everyone else who does the same. Be sure to share your creations with the world, just send us your MCT files to mhealy@hack7mc.com or give us a link to your custom theme.

I really like all the theming and efforts people are putting in. Makes it feel not so vanilla. I really wish someone would figure out a way to get rid of the little blue/green glowing light at the bottom right. It’s really an eyesore especially with darker backgrounds like this “Streaming Light” one.

Am I missing something? Downloaded MC Studio and the theme. Extracted the theme. But there is no .mct file in the rar.

Rename the .ZIP file to .MCT

Essentially MCT files are just ZIPs with a certain file structure, so IE tries to save them as zip by default.

I don’t normally go for MCE themes but this one looks really sharp & clean. Really like it (though may change/revert some of the menu icons though – not sure about the Music one for example).

The theme looks good, it just needs to be dynamic, like the PS3 one!

There shouldn’t have been an archive just the MCT file. I’m not sure why Microsoft is going out of it’s way to rename the file when downloading but I’ll zip up the MCT file and re-upload it.

With such excitement over the announcement I was hoping it had movement, disappointed.

I think “active thread” is a bit misleading since there haven’t been any comments in 5 months.

I have downloaded and inported the theme.. my problem is when i apply it, then start 7mc and the themes fine.
open media browser and go to play a movie… the movie sound starts to play and the streaming light theme masks the moive picture?

when i change the theme back its all fine again… anyone come across this?

Hello all, i have a new theme, which i have emailed to mhealy@hack7mc.com, but there has been no reply. I have created a theme called “Zune” HD, i have edited every editable image in ehres.dll, yes even the Shards Animations, and yes all of the icons, so if you want it, it is an .mct theme to use with Media Center Studio, i can provide you all with a link to it if requested. If you want to see a screen grab, look here

Let me know guys. I’ll check back soon, if there is any interest, i’ll provide a download link.

p.s. I also have all of the missing Channel Logo’s for Australian TV (Free To Air) that My Channel Logo’s doesn’t have, like SBs2/SBS3,SBS4,7mate,OneHD etc, if any Aussies need these, let me know as well.

I know there hasn’t been an update in a while, but if you’re looking for some tips and tricks for your Media Centre, why not take a look at some of the older posts?

I was amazed by how many good articles i’d missed.
