Recent acquisition and $50 investment.

So far… I’m still getting the hang of all the options for W7MC (64bit) but I have to say… Yammm seems to be the way to go – http://mikinho.com/yammm/

I’ve looked at Media Browser and its simplicity escapes me! I’m not seeing metadata or imagery being added to my media withing W7MC but I beleive I’m suffering from the permissions issue that it attempts to correct on startup. It may not be working correctly due to a high level of UAC being enabled. Yammm however, will automatically add metadata files and imagery simply by creating a folder within your “Video” folder. You just have to add the media sometime therafter.

While My Movies seems pretty cool and fairly straight forward; I don’t necessarily want to keep my ripped discs in VOB or Structured formats. I’m currently prefering .wmv format and using Daniusoft to obtain my media.

I noticed someone said My Movie will stream… well, Windows Media Center does that already and Yamm will allow you to use the existing “Media Library” without having another folder titled “My Movies” to deal with.

The only thing I’m not too hot on is that there seems to be a limited amount of adult IMDB information; making Yammm stammer at times and fail to pull images or .xml tags down for your some dvd metadata. Adult titles or no, not ALL discs will be found. When that occurs, there is no “easy way” to edit your medatdata files that I’ve found… Media Browser; My Movies; Yammm or otherwise!

just to add my 2 pennies worth:
i use mymovies3 at the moment, just the default, non paid for version, and i find it great for what i want, which is to be able to put all my physical dvd’s in the loft out of the way, and still have a perfect rip on my htpc – not just the movie (which is how mediabrowser is geared to work), but the whole dvd. to me this is the difference between the two products, mediabrowser is a beatiful product, but in my experience is geared towards movies, not dvd’s. mymovies has built in support for boxed sets, where the app will display a sub menu of each individual disc in the box, whereas mediabrowser requires a hack to get to work. its a shame the two teams cannot come together and provide a paid for version of media browser, with the collection management and boxedset support of mymoves. now that i would pay for…

I totally agree. Being able to stream an iso to my 2 xbox260’s is the biggest seller. Nothing else I’ve found works. I’ve been using MM for 3 years now and I woudn’t use anything else. I’ve got a 2.5TB mirrored setup on an older asus T-2, hauppauge 150, nvidia 6200 media center attached to 7.1 spdif panasonic and visio 1080p 47″. My entire house is wired win 2k3 domain server (roaming profiles, redirected “my Documents”) Win 7 MC, 3 Win 7 laptops, 2 XP Pro desktops, 1 PS3, 2 xbox360s, 6 ipods, 2 zunes, 1 droid, 3 win mobile 6.1, 2 roku boxes.

Your missing a really KEY feature of MyMovies that puts it way over the top and makes the $100 worth every cent.

It will stream DVD’s to an extender. Perfectly. Everytime.

Video_TS and ISO, as well as ANY format not supported by your extender will be transcoded and played.

I am assuming that you are referring to the new Star Trek Movie not released yet.
You are assuming he has the not yet released movie. This may not be the case since you can download the information for the movie without actually having the movie.

I have been using MM3 for about 2 years now.
I also entered my entire DVD collection and received very little points. The greedy pointers submit movies wayy before the movies are released so getting points is very hard and extremely time consuming.
I spent 1 hour updating 3 actors last night and received 25 points for it. (That is 1$ worth of points??) Then he says if the information is incorrect and removed I can lose my account?? WTF?
The rediculous 100$ is extremely over priced. If he lowered it more people would buy it and he could hire some people to help him with it.
I agree MM3 is better that it’s previous version, and keeps getting better but after 2 years it has changed very little.
As for his attitude on the forums. I have seen him be very friendly and very rude. It all depends on how you catch him. I have also talked to people that have left MM for others because of his attitude.
One thing to mention, Brian (MM Owner) has stated many times that My Movies is not designed for big screen TV’s and can not be adjusted for them. (increasing text size to be read at a distance)If you use a big screen for your home theater you might want to check it out to see if you can use it from your couch or chair.

Any person using MCE must understand its not plug’n'play (we all wish it was) instead it requires maintenance and updates as underlying technology changes – MKVs, multi audio tracks, subtitles etc.

Over the last 2 years MyMovies has been constantly updated, i.e. its actively supported especially compared with OML. So if problems do occur MyMovies will be fixed relatively quickly.

Disc copy in my opinion is not a requirement of any MCE front-end. There are far better specialised software options to save your movies onto your hard drive – with/without audio/subtitle tracks or just main movie.

I use MCE DVD folder/OML/MediaBrowser and MyMovies and enjoy and urge all users to try them. All will have strengths and weaknesses but its a constantly changing environment and users have different requirements and platforms and to dismiss one as ‘crippled’ is unfair.

The metadata didn’t seem any better than that which I was able to get through other metadata programs like metabrowser in my experience. Also, to the un-upgraded user who only receives two views and no disk copy or other advanced features it really seems to be just a crippled version of Media Browser.

I have used Media Centre for several years now. I use MyMovies, OML and Media Browser. For a first time user I would recommend MyMovies since it quickly sets you up with quality metadata – pictures, actors etc. In my experience all 3 have strengths and weaknesses. Once your movies are organized its easy to use all 3 apps: by default I use OML for all Kids, MCE DVD folder for my wifes foreign languages movies, MyMovies for movies (great for searching by director, actor etc) and Media Browser for everything (folders include music videos and TV documentaries). If one app lets me down (all of them can fail) it takes minutes to change the setup – no problems.
Why would any user restrict themselves to a single app?
This is a great website with quality info but this particular review is a little harsh. On Vista x64 platform MyMovies was far more stable than the other 2.
