Unfiltered Twitters Are you a Twitter addict? Or, perhaps you just want to be able to send out a few idle tweets from your couch during the commercial breaks? Then TwitterMCE may be just the Media Center plug-in for you. This handy plug-in will let you tweet right from inside Media Center as well as follow your friend’s, follower’s and your own tweets.

TwitterMCE is a free plug-in from MCE Zone that will let you do your tweeting right from your couch. All you have to do to get started is head over and download the plug-in from their product page. Downloading will require that you register at their site as well but this also gives you access to the forums should you need any help with the plug-in.

After downloading and installing the program you can find it in your Extra Programs menu sporting the twitter birdie icon. On the first launch of the plug-in you’ll need to enter your Twitter login information and whether or not you’d like to continue to do so in the future. Login takes a few moments but then you should reach the main menu.

From here you can choose whether you’d like to send a tweet or view recent tweets from yourself, your friends or your followers.

The real glory of TwitterMCE is the ability to tweet from your seat. Select the Update option to get started. You’ll be presented with an input box along with an onscreen keyboard, a running character count, and an Update button. You can use the onscreen keyboard to scroll through and select letters or use your remote cellphone style to enter your updates.

After pressing the Update button you’ll be presented with a dialog box confirming whether or not you actually want to post the tweet. While this may prevent miss-pressed buttons or the late night drunken tweet you shouldn’t have made, it would be nice to see an option to disable this dialog as well.

Afterward you’ll be taken back to the main menu where you can choose to browse through the various tweets of your Twitter comrades. At this point there wasn’t a comprehensive recent tweets area and you could only view one person’s tweets at a time. Perhaps Media Center Status Application can fill that small void for the time being though.

Selecting a person brings up a nicely laid out view of their recent activity. Maybe future developments of the plug-in will bring the ability to click and browse links in tweets and display the user’s profile image along with the recent tweets.

All-in-all a well designed package that will make Tweeting about the show your watching just that much easier. The price certainly can’t be beat either. So head on over and download TwitterMCE from MCE Tools and give it a try! I can see a whole new world of TV related tweets coming from the Media Center community soon.
