Finding Haali’s x64 Splitter Beta

by @ 9:00 am on May 1st, 2009 in codecs with 9 Comments

matroska-logo Haali’s x64 edition is now available officially from the Haali download site!

Haali’s Matroska splitter is one of the most popular MKV splitters available for Media Center users who run custom codec setups. For quite some time now, however, there’s been no x64 option available leaving a large number of users without any choice but to use the Gabest MKV splitter. Despite searching high and low on the almighty Google you won’t find much information on Haali’s plans for x64.

Little secret though, there’s a beta Haali splitter available for x64 systems and it works great on Windows 7 systems. For a while the only readily available resource for getting Haali’s x64 splitter was to install the Shark007 codec pack and while Shark007 provides an excellent package maybe your into doing things yourself.

But, enough with the lead-up let’s get to the meat: where can you find this elusive piece of software? Well, there’s no actual download page to visit, just a link directly to the Haali x64 beta installer (and a mirror here). Of course, this also means there’s no support for this software either so novice users may want to steer clear for now.

On the other hand using Haali’s splitter is basically just install and go. Take it for what it is, an unannounced, unsupported beta and you should get by just fine. If you do need some help, however, feel free to drop a line in the comments section here at Hack7MC and we’ll see what we can do.

Or you could just use the more up to date x64 splitter here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=205650&package_id=260619

You can use MPC filters, yes, and it has been covered before here but some people prefer Haali’s splitter.

Not sure what made you think otherwise but yes it is, the setup installs both the x86 and x64 version. They both install to the Program Files (x86) folder though. You can verify by installing and you’ll see the x64 version of each splitter in the installation folder (i.e. splitter.x64.ax)

x64 dlls in the x86 program files… uh, pleeeaaase. this is not a simplification. we have a standard way of checking if something was installed correctly. isn’t there enough time consuming confusion in the whole damn pc business already?

Sally, if you have a problem with this, then why don’t you write a codec which installs correctly then? Otherwise maybe you should rather shut your mouth and just use what works.
