Hacking Windows 7 Media Center

Adding MP4 files to Movie Library

by Michael Healy @ 6:13 am on January 22nd, 2009 in movie library with 2 Comments

It seems that although MP4 file are natively supported by Media Center’s codec the Movie Library doesn’t show these files by default. To add these files to the Movie Library we will do much the same as we did for the MKV files. Download either the x86 reg file or x64 reg file depending on your version of Windows and save the .reg file to your desktop. Once you have the file double-click to run it, you will be presented with a dialog asking you to verify adding the information to your registry. Select the Yes option in this dialog to add the MP4 registry information. That should be it, enjoy your MP4 files from the Movie Library!

Tried this – but didn’t work for VOB files… :(

I have a WHS and my daughter’s PC running WMC7 and it can’t see any of my “ripped” VOB/IFO dvd files all stored under “movie name”/video_ts. Tried increasing folder search deph in the registry, tried codecs [klite & shark007]. No luck.

I also wanted to try ISO files to maintain the best quality but not sure if that’ll work with our XB360 being used as a media extender. Also using My Movies for pics etc.

My daughters PC is a P4-2.6ghz-1.3gig mem-Radeon 7000 64meg video card.

Any suggestions???
